Thank You (Anonymous)

First I want to say thank you to all the women who have posted on this site. It is not easy to take pictures of your body and show others. My body image is something I have struggled with for years. I have two children, 5 and 9 months old. I would like to have one more, but I am scared to see how my body would end up looking. I know compared to other women my body does not seem as bad, but it is something I really struggle with. After seeing this site it makes me feel like I am not alone. Thanks again.

2 Beautiful Boys and Lots of Stretchmarks (Anonymous)

After delivering my first son I was so upset by all the stretchmarks. In time they did fade but the indentations remained. With my second pregnancy I carried 3 weeks longer and did get a few new ones but it was far less devistating this time around. I am back to my prepregnant weight and feel pretty good about myself. Sure there is room for improvement but I have nurtured two beautiful children through pregnancy and nursing (2 years with the first and 5 months so far with the second). I delivered the second at home with a midwife and I have done what my body was designed to do. My body may never look like those we see in magazines or like those of women who have never had children, and I am okay with that. I AM A MOTHER and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

12 Months Postpartum (After 2 cesareans/girls) (Anonymous)

I was originally told I could not have any children. One thing I could never accept. After 7 years of trying, I finally succeeded in falling pregnant naturally (2004). My first little girl was born exactly 8pounds via caeser because she was breech. I developed pre-eclampsia with this one and managed to put on a successful (?) 28kg!!! I started at a comfortable 57kg. I again fell pregnant in 2006 with my second girl who was born 7 pound. This time round I was very, very sick. In/out of hospital. Went into labour at 26 weeks and for 3 days off/on laboured. Thankfully both girls came at 38 weeks. They were and are both very healthy. I put on 4kg (yes, only 4kg) with my 2nd. After a week post partum, I was 69kg. However!! Like my first, the angel was no angel. I seeked refuge all things sugary and fattening…. ate packets and packets of chocolate biscuits!!! Put on weight (more than I weight full term) … I am almost happy to say that I am on the road to slimming down… I am hovering over 68-69kg and would like to lose another 8kg. This site is a wonderful tool in showing other mum’s that it is ok to have stretch marks, to have saggy breasts, less than perfectly smooth skin on your tummy… you are, after all, the creator and carrier of life. You have been given the cherished role of all…. I try to live by saying “my body is evidence of the miracle of my girls”. Good luck everyone…. xo

Update (Anonymous)

Original entry here.

Adjusting to a new body is tough. Being able to look in the mirror every day and actually LIKE what you see is tough. But making, growing, and giving birth to another human being… your CHILD… is incredible. Since my last entry, I haven’t lost any more weight. I seem to have hit a plateau. But thats okay, since I’m starting to feel a little more like my ‘old’ self every day. This website has taught me that there are more important things in life than how you look on the outside. I remember when I was a little girl and I’d look at my mother, or other women her age and think “They are so beautiful! They dont have any flaws, and they LOVE themselves!” And now, I realize that they were just as self conscious about themselves as I am today. I dont want my daughters, or anyone for that matter, to ever feel like I do… I want them to see the beauty in everyone, and especially in themselves. It doesnt matter what skin you’re in…

I never thought I would get pregnant. I was told it would be unlikely as I had very bad endometriosis and womb cancer. My husband and I were so happy and felt so blessed when we got pregnant in August last year. Unfortunately I miscarried at 11 weeks. We decided to try again and were totally shocked when we got pregnant only two months later. I am now nearly 33 weeks pregnant and love my bump. I do have some stretchmarks on it and I do worry about how my body will look afterwards. Sometimes I get a bit depressed when I think I will probably have to work at getting in shape for the first time. But I know that my body has done something amazing. It made my baby, our little miracle. And my husband says he finds my body more beautiful than ever, because it is looking after and growing our baby. Below is my bump at 32 weeks

24 weeks pregnant with second baby (Anonymous)

I am 24 years old and I am already a mother of a 2 year old boy. This is my second pregnancy. These pictures are from week 24 of my second pregnancy. I am a pretty small girl. I became huge with my first but I gained an average weight of 30 lbs. I was sick all the time with my son and very stressed through the whole pregnancy. After I had him it took me over a year to look “normal” again. As soon as I started to become okay with my post pregnancy bod, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. The first time I got a few stretchmarks around my belly, which you might be able to see in the pictures (sorry for not super great quality). I am nervous this time around because I am only 24 and although I am not super critical of my body, I think it’s normal to feel scared of the outcome of what our bodies are going to look like after a baby/babies. I think that is very normal. I do! We are women! ;-)

Perfection (Caurie)

Becoming a mother saved my life. Before I became pregnant with my first son my focus in life was my body. I had anorexia and exercise bulimia for years. In the pursuit of a “perfect” body my body was like an old woman’s. I had osteopenia, the enamel on my teeth was eroded, my heart had palpitations, and I had a seizure. I was 27 years old! I got pregnant on Valentine’s Day 2003 and immediately my whole focus in life changed. I fell in love with the little bean inside me instantly. At just five weeks pregnant, though, my body turned on me (who could blame it!?) I started throwing up and it would not stop. After passing out from dehydration and being taken to the hospital I found out I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum– a pregnancy complication marked by extreme vomiting, nausea, and weight loss. Basically it is like having the worst case of morning sickness 24-7. During my first trimester I lost 20 pounds and was hospitalized five times for IV hydration and nutrition. The IVs kept my baby alive as I could not even hold down water. I worried every minute that my baby was going to die. For the first time in my life I WANTED to gain weight, but I could not. The lowest point in my Hyperemesis came when a hospital physician suggested I was making myself sick because I didn’t want to gain weight. At around 24 weeks the vomiting stopped thanks to anti-emetic medicines used for chemotherapy patients. I slowly began to gain weight and look pregnant. I LOVED the rest of my pregnancy and embraced the roundness of my body, fullness of my breasts, and widening of my hips. Brice was born on November 4 and it was truly the best day of my life. Because of the Hyperemesis I did not plan to get pregnant again, but my husband and I were surprised with a souvenir from a vacation in May 2006! The day I found out I was pregnant again my OB started me on the same medications that helped my Hyperemesis with Brice. I am happy to report that I had an excellent pregnancy with Brady – the medications worked and I only had to be hospitalized once – when I delivered him. Although he had some breathing difficulty at birth, he is now a healthy, happy, and rotund baby. January 12 marks one year postpartum. I have had such a journey with my body over the past several years. At this point I no longer view my body with negativity, but with respect. I admire it not for what it looks like, but for what its achieved — two pregnancies, two births, and the nourishment of two babies through its milk. Unlike how it looked when I was anorexic – bony, gaunt, and child like – my body is now curvy, fleshy, and womanly. I have accepted it. Sure there are moments when I do not exactly embrace it, but thinness is no longer the focus of my life. My focus is my sons. How can I hate a body which gave me such precious gifts? In this sense, my body is finally “perfect.

9 weeks post partum shape (Anonymous)

Im 27 and i have two wonderful sons, one six years, the newest 9 weeks.I decided to post my pictures, dispite crying at how horrendous i look.I honestly hate the way i look.my husband tells me he finds me sexy and loves me, but how he can find that sexy is beyond me.I have always hated my body and I have always felt fat even when in hindsight i was actually thin.I know theres a deep issue going on.I feel so down and depressed about the way i look.my confidence has hit rock bottom.I dont like going out in public and felt panicky going to the shops yesterday.I just feel like hiding away. With clothes on i dont look to bad, but i feel fat and awful.Christmas is around the corner and if i could have one gift for christmas i would love self acceptance and confidence.I would treasure it forever. And to all of you other mothers out there that love and appriciate the new bodys they have, i have enourmous respect for you and i truely hope to be joining you on the other side soon.
