Hyperpigmentation (1st Time Mother)

This is my first pregnancy and I wasn’t aware of how much your body would change when you become pregnant. I was expecting a lot of stretchmarks and was terrified of both those and extra skin. Come to find out my biggest challenge is hyperpigmentation. During my second trimester I started noticing freckles on my face and chest. After a week more would appear and they started to connect. I ended up having the pregnancy mask, my belly become seriously dark and my nipples seemed to stretch all the way down to my ribcage. My nipples seem had it the worst. Since the dark marks are so significant I don’t ever plan on putting on another bathing suit or wearing any shirts that remotely show the top of my chest. I loved my body prior to pregnancy; I was 104 lbs at 5’4. By the time my pregnancy ended I was 160lbs. I have SUPER dark stretchmarks on my bum and hips oh and upper thighs but that seems to be all for right now. They are very noticeable but my husband doesn’t mind and I don either. I had a natural birth and my little one is everything I could hope for. I seriously dislike my chest but im glad that he’s here and healthy. The pic I took in my bra is 4 weeks before I became pregnant. The pic in the tub is the day before I had my son. The pic with my belly is 1 day postpoartum.

Age: 26
Number of pregnancies: 1st
Age of children: 5 days old (in picks I was 1 day postpartum)

I had this to an extent with both of my children, worse with my first. It took a good year but things went almost back to normal. Of course I still have bad stretchmarks and loose skin (and saggy breasts) but my nipples are once again pinkish/tan instead of black. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you can find some peace with it. :)

I understood that my body would change but did not expect the pigmentation to ‘adjust’ too. Like you, my belly darkened up a lot. This I happened to notice after 1st born (emergency C-section) due to where they had removed the tape from. Where they removed it, my skin was lighter. I am Dominican/Puerto Rican and a little bit lighter than you.
My Aereolas also got a lot darker and I thought, ‘oh, that’s nice of my body to make sure that these babies know where the milk is!’
Eventually I realized that a lot of ‘old skin’ ended up washing off during long baths, wash cloths, and moisturizing oils.
Just take care of your lovely Mama Body. It’s amazing the changes our bodies put forth to grow these little kiddos. Postpartum will also bring changes but the biggest and greatest is your little Bambino….Congratulations!

Lovely! I’m very fair and my nipples darkened also, I had a lot of places similar to yours, especially breasts, that turned very red during my first pregnancy. Eventually they went back to norm. Congrats and thanks for sharing. I wish you and baby long lasting health and bond!

I have the linea negra too (The dark line down your belly)I thought for sure it would disappear after my baby was born but 12 weeks later it’s still here and dark as ever! Oh well…
You look amazing and I don’t think it will take very much for your body to bounce back. Congrats on your little baby!

My skin tone is extremely white, so one of my breasts turned brown with pregnancy. The brown skin started peeling off eventually. Now 13 mo PP one breast returned to normal color while the other one is still a little brownish like it got a tan lol So don’t worry, with time your skin color will return to somewhat normal.

i also had the line down my belly with both my kids. although it faded, it didn’t really disapper until about 6 months after i stopped nursing. i think it has a lot to do with hormones. congrats to you, enjoy that baby boy. my baby boy turns 4 in 3 days and i feel as if time is simply flying!

    Hi,
I am 26 and i had a baby 7months ago. However we have lots of similarities from the linea niagra to the hyperpigmented tummy and stretch marks, i even had your exact figure before i got pregnant, i can honestly say i saw myself in the pre-preggy photo, the only difference is that my nipples didnt get as dark. But trust me i felt as insecure as you feel, with all the marks and dark patches here and there. I am happy to let you know that they will fade with time, i have been down that road so i can assure you, even the stretchmarks will become less noticeable. My tummy was darker than yours, and my breasts shrunk and sagged as well, but recently things seemed to be looking up :) i would be happy to post pictures as soon as i collate them. Right now, just be happy and focus on your well being and that of the baby and watch your body gradually return.
Wish you best of luck and congrats on your bundle of joy.

I had this all over my breasts too!! tried researching and found nothing on it so I thought I would have it forever!! went away within a month of having my son though so don’t let it ruin your pregnancy!! enjoy it, as this will go away shortly after having the baby x
