Positively surprised with my postpartum body. (Nancy)

Before I got pregnant I’ve seen many pictures of post partum bellies and I was worried that after my pregnancy my own belly will be ugly and pouchy and the skin strechmarked and saggy, but just a few days after delivery my body surprised me – I never expected I’ll look good, but now I’m very happy about my looks :)

You do look great. However I would like to say that I take offense to you saying you were worried your belly would be “ugly and pouchy” after looking at other post partum women…I am one of the women with stretch marks, loose skin, and a small pouch…But I hope you would not think of me as “ugly and pouchy”. I am simply a mommy of two amazing boys.

This site is all about empowering women and helping them feel beautiful. Your stretchmark-less stomach is beautiful along with the “stretched and saggy” stomachs you were so petrified of getting. All of them created a life, and none of them should be looked at negatively.

I agree I was rather offended by your post. I would’ve been more happy for you if you wouldn’t have put those of us with stretch mars and pouches down… I’m not envious

You do look great… Lucky you. I have to agree tho that I too am a little offended. I had my first baby at 19 an my second just 7 weeks ago at 25. It took me a long time to accept the way I look and feel beautiful again. This time around I feel like I’m starting all over again building my confidence back up. I don’t want to be defined my loose skin and stretch marks that I worke so hard to avoid and got anyway :/

I’m glad you’re happy with your body but I think it was a bit thoughtless of you to call “pouchy” “stretched” and “saggy” postpartum stomachs UGLY on a site that you well know exists to convey how normal they are.

I have never been pregnant or had a baby and my stomach reflects this, so I am not sure if I have any business being offended by your post but I just wish you would have thought a little bit more about what you were writing. I found the negativity you directed towards how some women look post partum absolutely appalling! I am glad that your tummy looks pretty good for having a baby, but if you did have stretchmarks or sagging skin, it wouldn’t affect how valuable you are as a person and you need to remember that. I feel bad for you in a way, because we all age and sagging skin and wrinkles are a part of life. Work on accepting that changes happen at this point in your life so you won’t struggle later on. (Also about 90% of people have stretchmarks on their body so why do so many people think it is ugly or weird? How is this even possible? Do they also dislike themselves because most likely they are a part of the population with stretchmarks)

I agree with all the ladies, you judging others with stretchmarks and saggy skin for creating life I find appalling, because no matter how hard we try to not get them it can happen regardless. I don’t feel that your any better than anyone else because you didn’t get stretchmarks everyone’s body handles pregnancy differently. You judging women by stretchmarks and saggy skin is like someone judging you for the dark line you have across your stomach from pregnancy, please be considerate of others as you would want them to be to you. And just because that didn’t happen this pregnancy doesn’t mean it won’t happen in a future one, a lot of my friends bounced right back after the first but then got stretchmarks and loose skin in the next pregnancies.

I think the poster looks great! I also think its great that she knows she looks great! I visit this site daily, and it always amazes me how a woman can get torn down because she’s happy with how she looks. She used words to describe a postpartum belly that she has heard and read repeatedly, on this site even! I don’t think she should be made to feel bad at all. I personally think her wording was perfect. Good for you, poster!

I don’t understand why other moms are taking offense. Love your body and be proud but don’t put other women down. Everyone is so sensitive about the belly issue. Yes some Mothers have ‘ugly’ bellies after pregnacy and some Mom’s bellies look nicer. It shouldn’t matter. I feel the purpose of this site is to love yourself no matter what and to enjoy your motherhood.
Just because you love yourself doesn’t mean you are completely blind. Some people are pretty, ugly, short, fat. This woman should be proud of her body it IS nicer than most. Does that mean she is a better person? No. Is being pretty everything? Not at all. But squawking about how her post is offensive just shows poor self confidence love your body for what it is.

I am glad that you were able to bounce back to your pre pregnancy body so fast and were not left with any of the so called ugly stretch marks and saggy skin that us less fortunate women end up with . You look great no doubt but I think you could have worded it a little better because I am sure your intention was not to offend anyone but to let others know that you feel good about yourself. It is just too bad that you had to make some of us feel bad in the process. This site is to help women with their body issues not tell us that we are gross and ugly because we struggle on daily basis not to feel that way anyways.

I am closing comments on this entry now. If the original poster would like to leave a comment, she can email me and I will post it for her.

I encourage people to use more careful language. Instead of words like “ugly” or “ruined”, I suggest “changed”. That way it gets your point across without hurting people in the process. This is a place where we come because we feel sensitive. We need kindness and love here. That doesn’t mean we can’t be proud of our bodies no matter what they look like, it just means we need to think about and care for our sisters who are reading this with us.

    Peace.
