Plus-Sized, Proud and a mommy to a monkey! (Monkey’s Mommy)

Let me start of by saying I am very proud of who I am. I don’t let the numbers on the scale dictate my happiness. With that being said, here is my story. I am 24 years old and i am a plus sized mommy. I have been plus size since 4th grade and so I really don’t know or remember life any other way.
I got pregnant May of 2008 at 308lbs. I had recently become engaged to my now husband and we had planned a July 2009 wedding. Little did we know we would become pregnant and push up our wedding to September 2008. Our child wasn’t planned, but was 100% wanted. Since we weren’t planning this pregnancy, we were unsure of when she was conceived. We ended up having a Due Date Scan to find out that our child was due January 27th, 2009.
I was over joyed with the fact that I had this life growing inside me. I couldn’t wait for the 1st kicks and I counted down the months until we knew the sex (a girl that we found out 3 days before our wedding, and kept it a secret until our wedding reception where I announced it to all our family and friends). I had a normal pregnancy. No Gestational Diabetes, and only a high blood pressure issue from 36 to 38 weeks that corrected itself. My due date came and went. I stayed at 1cm until I was induced.
My induction went very smoothly and my daughter entered the world on February 4th, 2009 at 8:10 pm via a vaginal, medicated birth. She weighed in at 8lbs 9.4 oz and scored a 9 out of 10 on both her apgar scores. I ended up weighing 326lbs right before delivery. Once home I weighed myself and I was down to 311lbs.
At 4 months postpartum I was diagnosed with PPT (Postpartum Thyroiditis) I have to now take medication for my thyroid. Other than that, I have had no issues with myself. My current weight is 290lbs and I am 7 months PP. I have been working on trying to be healthier, not so much with weight on my mind. I am happy with my body, my husband has never know, seen me any other way and he loves all my curves.
For all the women out there who feel like they would be happier a size or three smaller I say, be proud of who you are, not what your BMI is or your weight is. Love you for you!

~Your Age: I am 24 years old
~Number of pregnancies and births: 1 pregnancy resulting in 1 birth

~The age of your children, or how far postpartum you are: Mya, my daughter is 7 months old and i am 7 months PP

I think that you have a beautiful body. And have been such an inspiration to so many women to be comfortable with themselves, being plus size and pregnant. I would have never posted my postpartum belly pictures anywhere if you wouldn’t have made me feel like it was ok for people to see the real me. I don’t think you know the impact you have on my life

Thank you ladies for all your kind words. I truly hope I can/have inspired someone else by posting my pictures. I try and remain positive and optimistic in my self image. Don’t get my post wrong, there are days I have zero self esteem. I seem to have more self confidence when I don’t see pics of myself naked (like the ones posted above.)

I am currently starting a diet (as of October 1st). I am trying to lose 30 lbs by sometime in January.

I also wanted to add that the 1st pic was take at 24 weeks pregnant. The 2nd one at 40 weeks pregnant. The 3rd at 4 days postpartum. And the next 2 are at 7 months PP.

Beautiful Mumma & beautiful bubba x your outlook on life is so admirable and your lucky daughter will get that from you. If only everyone had the same amazing attitude as you if suspect life would be easier for a lot more people….congrats on your baby girl and thank you for the inspiration.

I follow this site and regularly read the stories here. Lots of women say what you’re saying about loving your body at whatever shape/weight you’re at. I struggle with this daily, though, and have a difficult time reading/accepting this from moms whose photos reveal that they have skinny (or even healthy weight) bodies. I always think, “Yeah. Easy for you to say at age 22 and 106 pounds.”

I am 33 and a mother of four. When I got pregnant with my first child, I was probably 130 pounds (I’m 5′ 2″). I’ve gone up and down on the scale and am now about 185 at four months postpartum with baby #4 (and final :)).

Your story is an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your photos. You are beautiful, and you have a gorgeous little monkey. :)

Thank you so much for posting, it really has made a difference to me. Maybe I’ll get up the nerve to post my pictures someday.

Thank you ever so much ladies for all the kind words. I am truly appreciative.
(for some of you who have seen my original pictures and wondered why they are covered now, i will explain)
You see my hubby threw a fit that ANYONE can see pictures of my body. And he was livid with me. (to the point that we weren’t on speaking terms :( ) So we agreed that i i covered up the boobs, he would be fine with me posting them. (at first i showed him all the postings about what a positive impact they have had, and it still didn’t convince him. Heck i even went with the “its my body” *i know childish right?*. In the end i had to come to some sort of compromise.)

    Long sorry!
But thank you ladies! I truly feel so great now seeing all the positive feed back!!!

numbers on a scale should NEVER EVER decide how someone should feel about themselves.
    ever.
our bodies are almost identical, right down to the dip in the waistline, and the low pannus. and i LOVE my body. i love being in my body. i love how my husband loves my body, i love that my children see my soft body as a comfort, and i wouldnt change my body, in any way, at all, ever.

Thank you again ladies! I truly appreciate all the support I have gotten from posting!
I am currently 27 weeks pregnant with a little boy! We expect him in the beginning of October!
So far this pregnancy I have gained a total of 8lbs!
I just had my GD testing and passed with flying colors (Don’t ever assume just because your bigger or someone is bigger they automatically have GD or BP issues!)
I hope this encourages other Plus Size Mommies to come out and not be ashamed on their bodies! :)

Thank you so much for posting your pictures. My husband and I are planning to start trying to get pregnant in the next couple of months. I am a plus-size lady and I am a nurse. So, in the back of my mind I freak out that I will not have a healthy pregnancy and that I am going to be ginormous. lol Sometimes being well informed as a nurse can make one worry more. Anyway. Your pictures are so inspiring to me. I am pretty much your size and shape. I think your pregnant belly looks amazing and now I am stoked to see mine and post some pics as well. :)

I just wanted to update again and thank everyone for all the positive words. My son was born 11 days overdue on October 19th, 2010 at 1:37am. He tipped the scales at 9lbs 13oz and 21.75in. long. I had an un-medicated natural child birth and am please to announce that I had zero issues during my pregnancy. No GD, HBP or anything. I am almost 6 months PP (will be on the 19th of April) and have successfully lost 80 pounds on my own. I am breast feeding my son exclusively and have been doing portion control, exercise and cutting out lots of sugar, bad foods. My daughter (the one in picture) is growing and such a great big sister. She is 26 months old and defiantly a mini me! My children are my inspiration to become A Size Healthier! If I can do it, anyone can!! My goal is 100lbs lost by my son’s 1st birthday (well I am at 80lbs lost at his 6 month!)

Don’t let anyone tell you that because your overweight you cannot get pregnant, have major issues, or let your weight BMI be a factor in your pregnancies!

    Love your body!!!
