Triplet Mom carries to full term for triplets 36 weeks and get 6″ of muscle separation (Triplet Mom)

I am a 22 year old mom of triplets (also non-IVF) I had been married only 2 months when we found out we were expecting. After two ultrasounds of one baby–triplets! I carried them to full term for triplets–36 weeks– and gained 80 lbs. I went from a size 6 to 230lbs on delivery day. After 3 months I was back in my size 6 jeans so I think a lot must have been swelling. Healthy babied did come with a heavy price tag on my body. My abdominals split 6″ apart leaving me at dangerous risk of a hernia. I had to have them sewn back together and got 5lbs of skin cut off as well. I hated my saggy skin every day especially being so young so surgery was not only medically the way to go for me but self esteem wise. Here is my pictures of pregnancy, post partum, surgery and post surgery. Enjoy! I’m baring it all for you. Hope this touches someone like all the other posts have touched me.

Thank you for your post it was exactly what I was looking for since I the only place I gained weight was my belly. I have tons of loose skin. Your babies are beautiful!

My stomach looks JUST like yours before your surgery! I had a 10 lbs son and am tiny (a size 2 before pregnancy – a size 4 afterward – despite being BELOW my pre-pregnancy weight). I’ve often contemplated getting surgery, especially when I’m tucking my skin into my waistband in the mornings as I dress. I’m glad that you did what was right for you – medically and cosmetically.

congrats for your three i can’t imagine all the job they make hehehe, of course they would need all your loving time, hehehe

What a great story. Congratulations! I too am carrying triples & this is my 1st pregnancy. I hope to get back to my original size at the end just as you did. I wanted to ask what foods you ate. I am only 25lbs heavier at 5 1/2 months & i desperately want to gain the lbs as i was told it will help to keep them in longer! Docs told me a minimum of 50lbs but i am finding it harder and harder to eat as they push against my stomach. Any guidence would be great! thank you Kathleen

WOW! Congrats!!! Looks like you were all baby..babies. O-k this has officially scared the day light out of me… found out this past Friday. Although, I just want to be able to carry mine full term(close to it) and they all be healthy. Non-IVF pregnant with triplets too.(7sets on both sides & 2 set triplets) , but based on pics have a few questions… Did you have triplets or twins in the family? Did you wear a pregnancy girdle? How did you make sure you ate enough for all of them? How did you exercise? Did you have natural birth?

Wow you’re amazing!! I’m a mother of 3 too, I have a 4 year old daughter and I had twins a little over a year ago and my stomache looks alot like yours did but it pokes out more..Did you have alot of help while you were recovering? I had scheduled my appointment already, but the financing fell through.. Also did you need mesh to repair that large of a diastasis separation? I was told I’d need mesh or alloderm (cadaver skin) to repair my separated muscles..let me know if there’s hope otherwise!!

Your pre-surgery pics look better than my belly 20 months after giving birth–and I only gave birth to one baby! Wish I could also do surgery–but can’t–too expensive and also too risky for me. You look nice.

Yes, I was the one on Dr. Phil, that’s so funny that you all recognized my pictures.
When I had just had the triplets back in March 2008 I stumbled across this web site and it made me feel SO much better about myself. I really felt that I wasn’t alone and that gave me strength. The makes of this web site should be commended for their efforts. Well done lady! :-)
I recommend reading Dr. B. Luke’s book on multiples. I think it’s called When your expecting Twins, Triplets and Quads. I totally credit this book as one of the reasons I was able to carry them so long and their birthweights. You have to eat like a crazy 8,000 calories per day and I ended up taking her suggestions and eating ice cream every night and carrying snickers bars in my purse. Triplet pregnancies are about getting all those precious calories in, she recommends not wasting space on salads that give no calories to the three babies. It’s a total crazy way of eating, that WORKS for multiples. Her clinic has the highest multiple birth weights in the country. Her book will answer all your questions.
Yes, I do have multiples in my family (both sides) though not in the past few generations and I was not aware of this fact until my gandpa only told me in May!
I did wear a girdle to save my back but once you have, say, over 18 lbs in front nothing helps, to be honest. I was in a wheelchair at the end because of all the weight in front. I could not walk long distances aka my apartment to the car port.
I was told not to exercise only walk to prevent blood clots.
Thank you all for the kind wishes and encouragement. May you all find the path that is right for you. :-)

P.S. I got my tummy tuck done in San Francisco at Kaiser, it was not covered by insurance, sadly, despite the severe muscle separation. It was about $7,500. You can look at more of my after surgery healing pictures for those of you considering a TT at http://www.picturetrail.com/tripletmom08

I also had non IVF triplets – when my oldest son had just turned one! 4 kids under the age of 2 really was alot of work – but I can honestly say that they’ve been the BEST blessing my husband and I have ever received!

They are now 4 years old and I just recently (2 weeks ago) had abdominal reconstruction (because of the seperation) plus a abdominalplasty surgery – I have not been able to move much let alone enjoy the new tummy – but it’s something I really want to do – I weighed 230lbs when I gave birth to my litlle angels and I am usually 140lbs – what a number it did on my body!
Your results look grea – I am hoping for the same – Congrats & Enjoy your wonderful family :)

The thought of carrying the triplets was really frightening me. i carried the twins to 38weeks and put on 4 and half stone! i lost all this within three months of giving birth and went back to my size 6 jeans however i no this is not going to be the case after having the triplets, i just hope that i can carry them as far as possible :-) x

Wow! Congrats. I am a triplet myself, 30 years old. My mom had 3 children, all girls, then got pregnant naturally with us triplets. In 1982, you didn’t take many pictures of your belly but we have a few and my moms belly was huge! She looked so good after we were born, without surgery. She still looks good but does have a little belly on her from all the kids. Best advice I can give from being a triplet is to not dress them up the same. Let them be themselves, they are all different little people.
