My sister and I went to Victoria’s Secret during one of our many power walks through the mall…trying to induce labor! While she was busy slipping on darling little neglege, I opted towards the most rediculous bra top I could find! I only gained 12 pounds while I was pregant and my son was 9 of that. I did a great job of maintaining my weight although I did get stretch marks on my stomach. After my husband and I separated I was quite self-concious about letting someone other than my son’s father see my tummy. I’m now expecting my second baby with a wonderful man. I learned that if you can carry yourself with confidence and are with someone who really cares about you, those little details will be overlooked. I am happy with my body now even though it’s starting to get the early bump on the bottom! My boyfriend will come up behind me and just hold me and rub my tummy and tell me how excited he is about our baby being in my tummy. The beauty of a child will make anyone forget the physical changes that happened during pregnancy.
WOw. You look very lovely. Could you please tell me how you only gained 12 pounds? I don’t want to gain 50 pounds myself because I tend to eat like there is no tommorow. I’m scared of gaining too much unhealthy weight :)
Did you do any exercises, eat anything specail during pregnancy and postmartum? Would love to know!
I would like to note here, that current medical recommendations are for weight gain to be between 25 and 35 lbs. However, my personal opinion is that as long as you eat healthy and move your body you should not worry about the number on the scale (aside from swelling or pre-eclampsia signs). I gained 50 pounds with both my pregnancies – my first I didn’t eat so healthy, but with my second I really did! I think it’s just the number my body gains. :)

“The standard advice for how much weight a woman should gain during pregnancy may need to be changed, according to a rigorous and provocative study suggesting that even accepted weight gains may raise the risk of having an overweight toddler. ”
It was all over the news recently and has me quite worried.
Zahara, frankly I think it’s a load of bull. And I think it’s a quite dangerous one, too.
My personal philosophy on eating well during any period in life (pregnancy, childhood, any time) is that if you eat whole foods when you are hungry, stop when you are full and exercise your body regularly, then – except in cases of health problems such as diabetes etc – you will weight a healthy weight.
Trust your body. Let go of the numbers, you’ll be OK.
Hugs!
Well, as far as my weight gain, I just ate when I was hungry and didn’t try to “watch my weight” or worry. I was active and worked until I was 8 months pregnant. I didn’t feel unhealthy and my doctor said that because my baby was developing normally (actually he was simply huge for a first baby) he wasn’t worried. I’m 5’9″, vegetarian and had a healthy BMI to begin with. I think that every woman is so different that we can’t expect everyone to gain the same. I am 17 weeks with my second and lost about 9 pounds the first trimester. I’m still about 5 behind where I started. Again, I’ve just been eating healthy and my little boy (yay!) is growing perfectly! I’m terrified that this one is going to be 10 lbs though! He’s measuring a little over a 1/2 week bigger than where he should be and we are certain on the conception date! Best wishes mommies!
You look adorable!! And that top is quite ridiculous
