In honor of SOAM’s upcoming fourth birthday, I am hosting a DVD giveaway! I happen to have a couple copies of 50 Nude Women which the producer, Margot, is refusing to let me pay for because she is clearly completely awesome.
I first became aware of this short film through one of SOAM’s readers several years ago, although at this point I can’t remember who it was now (feel free to speak up!) and as soon as I looked into it, I knew I had to own it. It is, simply, footage of 50 very different women, all nude. Tall and short, thin and round, young and old, from different cultures, of different colors, various body marks from head to toe – it is, in a word, women. Despite it’s length of only 12 minutes, the film makes me both laugh and cry. It shows the beauty in the diversity of women, and, actually, in humankind in general. We are beautiful in all our many forms. (I swear I’m not paid to say this!)
I believe Margot has made one of the most beautiful and important films ever, and I hope every woman (and man! and teenager!) finds a way to watch this movie and share it with their friends. And that is why this DVD is what I want to share with you as we embark on a fifth year of changing the world.
But I’m going to make you work for it. How do you enter? It’s simple – just go to Harriet Brown’s website and take her Pledge to Love Your Body. Come back here and leave a comment saying you’ve done that and you are entered to win one of two copies of the DVD that I’ll give away. Winners will be chosen randomly and I will announce the winners on Monday, July 5th, and we’ll have cake (gluten-free for me, virtual for you*) and sing and maybe even dance a little.
So go forth, spread the word on your blog or on Facebook or Twitter, and stay tuned for the festivities!
*I’d share, but cake just doesn’t taste as good once it’s shoved through the internet.
I did it!!! :) I would really love to win this DVD – especially for my 8 year old sister! She is so curious about the women figure (she is always with my mom and me (I am 23)and at the stage where she is questioning her own body and its beauty… I want to show her that women truly do come in all shapes and sizes. This would be PERFECT! :)
That sounds awesome! Is there anywhere you can watch it online if you don’t have the extra money to buy it?
I’ve taken the pledge! This video sonds like it rocks!
Haha, I am on a gluten free diet too, Bonnie!
I not only pledged, but I printed it and put it on my bathroom mirror.
Thank you!
That was exactly what I needed to read today! I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I DO want to take that pledge!
I did it!
I’ve taken the pledge too! It’s awesome!
I did it! And I saved it to share with others! I love it and would love to have one of those dvds!
Wonderful pledge! I did it! Go my rockin’ twin skin belly, breasts mature & loose from nursing two at once, and the rest of my sinewy curves. My body serves me well, and I am thankful.
Pledge done. What a great looking film!
Did it! Perfect morning to read the Pledge. It brought tears to my eyes after by self esteem eating my alive lately, thanks for the beauty boost!
I am a childbirth educator and last week one woman expressed her concern with pregnancy weight gain and post partum appearances. I told all 6 of the women there to look at theshapeofawoman. Today I will be printing out the pledge with your website and making copies for each one of them.
Thank you for helping me to give these women the support they need.
I love it!! I even printed one for my mom and my sister! We have promised to help eachother build confidence and self satisfaction!! Thank you! We would love to watch the movie by the way :)
I pledged and then shared with it all my fb friends. Causing a nice discussion on my wall right now. Yay for loving your body!!
I have just made my pledge. It is exactly what i needed and I have printed it out to reaffirm everyday. Thanks SOAM and Happy Birthday.
It’s something I need to do, and I will strive to stay true to it. Thanks!
Happy b-day SOAM! This site is the first thing I check in the morning-my morning pick me up!
I’ve taken the pledge :)
I went and pledged and Thank you so much! I needed to hold myself accountable for all the body-hating comments I tell myself. It stops today! :)
I did it! This DVD looks amazing, btw. I am so fortunate to have a husband who LOVES my real, natural body AS IT IS. We our expecting our first child now, too, and he has absolutely been in awe of (and loving!) the changes in my body.
Happy Birthday, SOAM!
Something we should teach our daughers.
Took the pledge and plan on keeping it. I absolutely love this site and have visiting ever since I got pregnant. My new motto is imperfection is perfection. ~Please enter me, thank you!
I have pledged. I love my baby-making, breastfeeding, non-dieting body :-)
Thank you SOAM!
Done – and I will take it to heart. I have 3 daughters and the pledge is as much for them as it is for myself.
Pledge taken. I must print it out and put it up on my mirror. This body was made for making and nurturing beautiful babies! That’s why it’s soft and cuddly all over!
Happy Birthday, SOAM!!! Congrats to Bonnie on such a powerful, wonderful site continuing to grow strong!
I took the pledge and would love to see & share this DVD with my own daughter (one day, she’s too little now), my husband, and mommy friends.
It felt good just reading those words :) I am joining the pledge to be nice to my body – look at all the wonderful things it’s done for me.
Done, but that’s going to be tough to uphold … Happy birthday SOAM!
I took the pledge, i love the idea of printing it out and hanging it up like someone mentioned earlier. I think i will do that when hubby comes home and sets up the printer!
I did it! And for me, it needed to be done. At first, i read it and thought that would be impossible to not bash my body. But after reading it with a big heart, i knew this was something that i truly needed to absorb. My body is awesome! The more i put myself down, the more it is bad for me. If someone was to ever wish that her flaws and all her bad features disappeared, they themselves would vanish and would never be seen again.
Happy B-day to you…and wishes for many many more to come! Signed :)
Happy birthday to this website. It’s been a god-send for me during this, my first pregnancy. I took the “Spread the love” pledge, and I think every woman should.
I did it! Great idea!
Done. Years ago, actually. I decided, just before my last submission to SOAM, that, even at 25 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight & with a few more inches than before, I would honestly, really be okay with that. Cuz, gawdDAMN, I’m hot. And any man who didn’t think so could just keep on walking.
I shared it with all my facebook lovelies, too!
Done! Beautiful way to celebrate my new way of seeing my body! I am getting better and better at accepting me…
I did it! I think I might have to print it out and put it on my bathroom mirror! And on my fridge, my headboard, in my wallet……………
i did it!
i needed that. thank you! i’m going to share with a few friends also.
i would love to be entered to win a copy or two of the dvd.
I took the pledge. I will also have my younger sisters read it, as well. Thank you for posting this. :)
I did it! I haven’t seen it yet, but it sounds like a beautiful film. <3
I did it! Oh how I needed to commit to this. I’ve been loathing my body every morning lately. This is the reminder i needed. I look forward to seeing the film!!!!!!!!!!!! Bless you and thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
I did it too and will urge my girlfriends to do the same!
The film sounds beautiful. I posed naked for a photographer doing a coffee table book on different body types and it was a wonderful way to celebrate my body!
I did it! I think this is a wonderful site, Bonnie! Thank you!
I took the pledge. It isn’t always easy to love my body but your work and this website have certainly made it a lot easier! Happy Birthday SOAM :)
I can’t believe SOAM is 4 years old!!!! I have been coming here to read through a pretty tough time in my life….Divorce, dating and commitment all with two small children and realizing how beautiful I really am……Thank you and I too pledge to be kind to my body and honor it!!!

OMG, I CRIED DURING THE PLEDGE BUT I DID IT. Thank you so much for this. It really made me realize how unkind i am sometimes to my body. I don’t want to do that any more. THANK YOU!
I did it,and I didn’t even need to. I’ve had a lot of family members w/cancer and I’ve learned that no matter what my body looks like, it’s healthy! All my parts work! I am so lucky to have that flabby belly because 2 beautiful kids came with it.
Well, I don’t need to tell you, do I?
I did it! What a beautiful project!
