No confidence & wrecked body! (Anonymous)

Age:17
Pregnancies/births: 1
Age: 2
Postpartum: 2

I had my daughter aged 14, young but very mature.
Always disliked my figure even though I was thin.
I ate everything and anything I could get my hands on to. I didn’t care about eating healthy and keeping for throughout my pregnancy even though I walked everywhere. I had no bump until 24 weeks when it appeared out of no way also had no stretch marks until 34 weeks which I was devastate about. Hated looking at them and the thought of then being there forever.
I have birth to my daughter at 36 weeks in October 2010.
Almost 3 years and I still have my horrible stomach due to no exercise and poor diet.
Looking in the mirror always gets me depressed and I wonder how anyone could love me or my body if I hate myself for it.
I am now determined to loose weight and tone up my stomach by July 2014

34 weeks pregnant!
Almost 3 years later.

Any advice on how to tone and loose weight?

Your best bet is weight-lifting. Thirty minutes, three times a week with hand-weights caused me to drop 10-15 pounds and gain muscle.

However, I think you should also focus on other things that make you feel strong during that time, to help build your confidence and self-esteem. Are there projects / hobbies you can take up? Activities that make you feel happy? When you’re content with yourself, other people notice.

You’re a beautiful woman and I wish you the best of luck!

I second the weight lifting advice!

If you run on a treadmill for an hour you’re going to burn extra calories for that hour and that’s it. If you build more muscle you’re going to burn calories working out, but you’re also going to burn calories to maintain that muscle 24/7. So the more muscle you have the more calories your body is constantly burning!

Also, feeling strong is GREAT for your self-esteem!

I think your on your way to making a positive change. Just so you know, fat loss is associated with diet, muscle gain with lifting. So focus on getting your diet under control and get to the lifting when you have the time! PS – I have stretch marks too, most women do. I’ve learned that when I’m happy with what I’m doing to be HEALTHY my stretch marks aren’t an issue. I’ve written about it, you should have a read! https://www.mamalionstrong.com/have-you-heard-of-the-beautiful-body-project/

You honestly haven’t fared too bad, just a few faint stretch marks. Your abdominals do not seem to have separated which is great news for you. I suggest that if you want to lose weight you just do some basic calorie counting and learn some portion control. By doing this you will be slimmer in no time and the belly will go down.

I myself fell pregnant at 15 years old. I was a young mother aswell.
Some tips are, 20+ min walk in the morning before you eat! drink 2-4L of water per day (depends on your) activity, and body, don’t stress! it will make you stack on the belly weight (im dealing that now despite healthy eating and exercise)
Do weights, even light ones, squats are your friend! you need to build muscle to burn more fat. But don’t forget cardio. something quick and easy get your heart rate up and keep it up it will help burn the fat. Eat regularly.
cut out sugar! (natural is fine: in fruit, honey)
don’t worry to much about how much fat is in something, check the sugar! obviously you don’t want high saturated fats, but make sure the sugar is low. Try and eat as “clean” as possible, by that i mean no processed foods, doesn’t mean washing food before you eat it. Natural foods, veggies, fruits, fish, green tea is great too! add some honey if you need it any sweeter.
Just keep up the water that is really important. Try to stay away from white breads, and if you can white pasta, try wholemeal or even Rye if you can afford it and brown rice.

Your body may not get back to what it was, but you will feel better. It takes 4 weeks for change to take place, about 6-8weeks for you to notice the change and 12+ weeks going hard out for other people to notice the change. don’t loose hope, and keep trying! take it 1 day at a time and you can only try your best. You are only human after all.
Last tip! Abs are made in the kitchen! You can get abs just by diet alone.
