My Homebirth Journey (Anonymous)

January 6, 2008

First off, I LOVE this site! Thank you so much for sharing what real women look like. When we found out we were pregnant, we immediately knew we wanted to birth at home. It just made sense for us. Our family and friends weren’t very supportive and thought we were crazy. I went 3 weeks past my due date which, to some people, solidified the fact that our idea to birth at home was insane. The day I went into labor continues to be a very special day. For at least 12 hours, it was just my husband and I. Since we’d gotten little to no support from the people around us, only our midwife and her assistant were present at the birth. 16 hours later, our little girl was born. At home, right where we wanted her to be.

A very beautiful experience and a very beautiful family at that. May you and your family be blessed. If your religious, sometimes its only you and God against this world.

That is a wonderful story, and I’m glad that you’re experience went so smoothly. And I’m even more glad that you and your husband followed through with YOUR plan regardless of the lack of support from your family and friends. I love how calm and comfortable your husband and you look in the labor process. Kudos to you both!

I admit that I often think homebirthing women are nuts, but at the same time I’m a little jealous that you and women like you have that kind of inner strength. Maybe people were jealous? Your delivery looks beautiful. I’m glad it went safely. God bless you and your family!

What beautiful photos! Congratulations on your lovely daughter and your homebirth. Having given birth to two children at home I know how intimate and powerful an experience it is to welcome one’s child into the world at home.

Wow. I found your story amazingly inspiring. The photos of your husband rubbing your back and the one of you two with your daughter are so touching. What a beautiful and thoughtful family your baby has! Congrats to you – both on the birth of your daughter and for your courage to do it the way you knew it needed it be done. You are a strong woman – something your daughter will forever benefit from!

I’m sorry your family didn’t accept your decision – that must have been rough for you. But look at the wonderful result! Your pictures are stunning and I’m proud of you.

How amazing and STRONG you are! Congratulations on your beautiful child, and I too, find it so inspiring that you and your husband stuck to your guns and delivered how YOU wanted to, not how others thought “proper”…Your photos are simply beautiful, and I agree with the gal who said the one of you laughing is both inspiring and affirming…Bless your family!!

This made me cry remembering the beautiful birth of my son in a holistic birth center which has now closed down. I have been considering a home birth as opposed to a hospital for my second. You have a beautiful little family.
