Own Your Beauty: Creativity

Karen’s post went up yesterday talking about how important creativity is to owning your beauty. It’s an excellent post; I found myself nodding along the whole way through. Creativity isn’t something out of your reach – it’s something you already do every day, and something that truly enhances the soul the more you intentionally practice it (am I’m not talking just about making “art”). Go, read it. Be inspired. Make a vision board – I know I will (and I will probably post about it on my personal blog).

Also, did you know Karen’s book has been released? Check it out, it’s beautiful and, frankly, I think would make a perfect gift for any woman.

I love the idea of a vision board! I think I will make one myself :)

One thing that rang true for me was her comment about the creativity of engineers. Leaving highschool, I was faced with the decision of a career in fine arts or engineering. I made the tough decision of what I though would be “giving up” my creativity to become an engineer. I thought that “art” would only be a weekend/side project for me. I couldn’t be more wrong. My husband and I and many of our best friends are engineers… every one of them is creative in their own way. A surprising number have passions for the more recognized forms of art like painting, photography, wood-working, cooking, etc. Even the ones who don’t are equally creative though. They write beautiful and elegant programs, circuits, mechanical layouts of buildings, etc… creativity for me is all about having passion for something and the desire to do it well. Anybody with inspiration is creative :)
