My Body After Twins (Anonymous)

Everyone told me when I was pregnant that I would never be able to wear a bikini again because being pregnant with twins destroys your stomach. I want to tell you that that is not always the case. People
also said that if your mom has stretch marks you will too. My Mom has stretch marks, but I didn’t get any. I ate well and a lot during my pregnancy and have not had time to step into a gym since they were born. I was back to my pre-pregnancy shape two weeks after giving birth naturally. I eat whatever and however much I want, nurse and take care of my awesome twin boys. I feel very fortunate and love being a Mom!

~Age: 26
~Number of pregnancies and births: One pregnancy, twins
~The age of your children, or how far postpartum you are: In the picture I am 6 months
postpartum with fraternal twin boys.

You look amazing! You certainly did everything you could to stay in shape and take care of yourself, and you were also very lucky that your body bounced back the way it did because sometimes people do everything and their body still looks different (still beautiful, but different). Enjoy those beautiful boys!

Oh your boys and your figure are lovely! So is the wonderful smile on your face! My tummy has bounced back well both times, but yours is nothing short of amazing! I have a friend who recently vaginally (vba2c!) birthed triplets and her tummy went back to completely flat too. The human body is an amazing thing isn’t it?

You have a beautiful family! To go back to such an amazing figure after twins is awesome. It’s nice to see ALL shapes of mothers and that includes stretchmark-free and flat bellies. Out of curiousity, in the picture what are you standing in?

Wow your husband has a really hott body too! I just wanted to add that not everyone can control what happens to their body. Ive had friends who ate healthfully and exercised as much as is safe and reasonable during pregnancy and wound up with a floppy body. You are very lucky!

Thanks for the nice compliments everyone. Sandra, I am 5’8”, was 120 pre pregnancy, and 147 at delivery. I know I didn’t gain much with twins, but I worked my butt off to gain weight. My matabolism shot up when I was pregnant and it was a constant battle to gain. The babies were a good size and healthy so it didn’t much matter in the long run.

I had the same experience with my singleton pregnancy: My metabolism shot up and I could hardly get any weight on, no idea why!

You look great! I’m similar – I am 5’5″ and before pregnancy I was a slim 115 (a bit lighter than I’d prefer to be) and I gained 50 lbs but now our boy/girl twins are 29 months and I’m at a healthy 120 lbs. I also ate well during pregnancy; I tend not to be able to keep weight on so I was concerned about that during pregnancy but it turned out not to be a major issue. Just after the twins were born, I think I was at about 130 lbs. Everyone kept telling me I’d be overweight once I had the twins and I’d say no logically that makes no sense – I didn’t even crest into the overweight ranges until late pregnancy so once the twins are born, that would automatically me at least into high normal. Then people would say 50 lbs. isn’t enough for twins. Actually, it’s the upper end of the weight ranges. And often I’d get people commenting on how I look too little to have twins, am I sure they’re twins?, are they growing ok? and I’d have to say “MY DOCTOR SAYS…” and I was getting pretty fed up with how many people took the liberty to comment on my weight after I got pregnant with the twins.

I still have a little bit of roundness at the tummy area. Our daughter was born vaginally but our son by emergency c-section so I was told that I’d never have a flat tummy like I had pre-pregnancy without a tummy tuck. I don’t think that’s true. I’m also part of an exercise study so I exercise 300 minutes a week (5 hours!) and I look a bit different than I did pre-pregnancy but really not enough for me to cry over.

My twins were babies number 4 and 5 and I had zero hope with two in tow. However, after using a belly binder for 12 weeks, I bounced back completely also. I can still wear everything I used to wear. I didn’t get any stretchmarks either, but that was completely unexpected.

You look AMAZING, and it’s great to get the word out that there is some hope to have, and that by doing the best things you can during and after pregnancy, you can help yourself look your best again. You may get some stretch marks, I can’t promise that, but it doesn’t have to mean the end of a bikini bod, and not recognizing your former self again.

I said if I survived twins body, mind, and soul, I’d blog about it. I was in such twin shock I couldn’t see the light of day, but now I know my purpose, and that is to help others, and this picture helps others to. Great luck with your beautiful family!

Wow! You look amazing. My 1st were twin fraternal girls. I was 113 pre pregnancy and gained I think 30. Though my body definitely did not bounce back like yours did!!!!! I was a size zero pre preg and my body changing was so difficult especially post pregnancy….my skin just literally hung down…so much extra skin. Not too many stretch marks at all. It definitely got more toned (6 yrs later now!) but I don’t think it will ever be fully flat again….the skin just really stretched. So u r definitely lucky!!!!

You do look beautiful. Your boys are perfectly adorable. My sister is very much like you – exactly the same as she was before babies. Unlike you, she is very critical of those who don’t simply rebound right after pregnancy. You posted to give women some hope that all is not lost! What I have come to realize is that I look the same as I did before kids. I didn’t start out with anything close to the bod you have but my shape has always been great. I got a few stretch marks but I’m not bothered at all by them. You certainly are lucky in many respects. Skin elasticity is in large part determined by genetics. But you also took care of yourself before during and after babies. My guess is that people telling you about post – baby bellies and stretch marks were just trying to soften the blow. You are not the norm at all. Most of us don’t escape unscathed! Your story is a good reminder that it may not turn out as bad as we think. I thought that my second pregnancy would turn me into a monstrosity. I have some extra pounds but that’s all, really. I spent so much time worrying and I was fine – more than fine. We all need a reminder to be more positive once in a while.

I’m so happy to see this! Its good to know there is still hope, I just have this fear that I will never get back to what is normal for me. I work out 6 days a week and having fun doing it. I just lose hope every once a week or so that I wont ever be me again. Reading this and seeing your pic makes me all kinds of happy& most of all motivated! Good luck with your beautiful family!

Thank you for the post, it was encouraging. I am 18.5 weeks pregnant with twins. I have struggled with weight most of my life and was finally getting to an area I was happy with before I got pregnant. all the things I have read about getting your body back after twins is down right scary and, as excited as I am to meet our babies, I was also really upset because I was basically reading that all my hard work was for nothing because I would never actually be able to have a decent body again.

It was so nice to find your post. Thank you for the encouragement. this post was really uplifting.

I pinned this on pinterest when I was pregnant with my girls!! Everyone told me the same old crap about how twins destroy your body! Yeah whatever!! I had my tight abs back five weeks after my c section! Zero stretch marks either!! I loved seeing this picture while I was pregnant! It filled me with hope! So I have a post coming up on here soon called “fit after a son and twins” I hope it will help another woman who is pregnant with twins and is a little freaked out! I’m paying it forward! Check it out!!!

You look great! I was on bed rest for most of my pregnancy, so my lean marathoners physique that I worked so hard for atrophied. My twins are 9 months and I still have 15 lbs and 2 sizes to go before I’m back to pre pregnancy…I suspect this has to do with my breast feeding. Some women hold extra weight while breast feeding and I’m one of those :) I do have stretch marks on my tummy and boobs, but my husband still thinks I’m beautiful and I just need to have more grace for myself. I’m doing bikram yoga and hoping to afford a jogging stroller now that the weather is getting warmer. I plan to work hard to get back my tight body, but I’m glad my body is different because I am different . Growing 2 beautiful baby girls is hard work!!

Hang in there mamas and be kind to yourself. Work hard to get what you want and love your body…it did sustain and produce your little miracle(s).

Is this supposed to be helpful? That’s great that you went back to a super hot body six months after having twins by doing nothing. Most women are not so lucky. It’s like when a woman struggles with fertility problems, finally gets pregnant, and then tells other women “I finally got pregnant! That means there’s hope for you too!” Not necessarily… Also not sure why you are sucking your stomach in in that picture?

I’d love to know WHO (new mom of twins or not!) doesn’t “suck in” or try to look as good as possible when being photographed in a bikini?! She looks fantastic & deserves to share that with the world if she wants to. Any article or blog post will relate to some readers, while not applying or being “helpful” to other readers. But at least you’re not bitter Laney… :) Why not find something you CAN relate to and leave a positive comment there instead of a negative one here?
