Motherhood is Empowering (Anonymous)

I am 40 years old in this photo. After 7 pregnancies, I am blessed to be the mother of an 11-year-old, an 8-year-old and a 6-year-old. Being a mother has taught me to take ownership of my life and my place in this world, and to be the best woman I can be in every way. I work hard to stay fit and healthy, yet I have stretch marks and extra skin like any other mother, and I embrace it all because I know that my daughters take their cues from me and will see themselves accordingly. I strive to inspire them the way they inspire me!

Thanks, guys! Manali, I have not had a tummy tuck or any other surgical help (although I only have 3 kids, not 4). My stomach is the result of hard work and nothing else. I do, however, have loose skin and stretch marks and even though I wish my skin was tighter, I feel a responsibility to embrace and accept my body as it is, so that one day when my girls are mothers, they will do the same.

And: we mothers SHOULD embrace our shapes, in whatever form!!!

I’m 23 and I envy your beautiful stomach. Kudos to you for working so hard; you just inspired me to do 20 sit-ups. Ok, all done. Whew, I worked up a sweat!

P.S. I’ve never had children and I’m so relieved that it’s possible to look like you after kids.
