I have inverted nipples and I noticed near the end of my pregnancy they began to stick out a bit more. For me, if I stimulate them, they stick out. This approach worked for breast feeding as well. Just sort of get them ready before you offer the breast to the baby. Once they learn how to suckle, it will become much easier and they will know how to erect them on their own. I didn’t need a nipple shield, although the LC suggested I try it. I’m stubborn and it worked.
