Happy Anniversary!

Two years ago today I got The Shape of a Mother up and running. Since then we have had over 600 submissions (possibly over 700), have been mentioned in blogs, newspapers, radio shows, magazines and more. I am honored to have such a part in society, to have helped bring so many women together to support each other. We have truly begun to change the way society sees mothers and it will only get better from here. We, like the woman in this photo, have stuck our hands stubbornly on our hips, thrown on our bikinis (I realize she is not wearing a bikini, bear with me here, m’kay?) and told the world we ARE beautiful exactly the way we are, thankyouverymuch.

So thanks to each and every one of you – to you who have bravely posted your photos, to you who have read them and healed your heart a little, and to you who have passed the link along to friends or family or blog readers. Every single one of you is an integral part of this site. Thank you.

Here’s to another year (or two! or more!) of changing the world!

Thank you so much for this site!!! It has helped me so much. I never thought I would ever stop hating my body for what it “should” be, and start loving it for what it is. But I have.
    Thank you again!!!

Thank you thank you thank you! You have helped me feel at home in this new mama body. What you are doing is huge! You are making such a difference for our children. I haven’t submitted yet, but I will someday. You give me strength. I now let my son kiss my belly without worry he’ll think I’m gross. Thank you!

Congratulations on the 2nd anniversary! I stumbled across the site about a year ago and I’m so glad I did. You’re doing something really fantastic. Thanks to all the people who have posted their photos and helped me to understand that I am not alone! Haven’t plucked up the courage to post any photos of me yet but watch this space..

I came across this site about last year, & have just come back across it.

Having had a tummy tuck & about to have a breast lift following pregnancy (although, more so due to the massive weight loss which followed), I clearly don’t feel as empowered as many women do about their post-pregnancy bodies. However, now six years after having my son, my stretch marks have faded to a level I can live with, & I am starting to see them as part of me, part of my history, & most of all part of my son. People like all of you have helped me find even this tiniest piece of silver lining. Thank you.

PS – none of the tags seem to be working.

Wow. Because of your website I am able to actually feel proud of my body to the point where I don’t mind who sees my stretch marks and little pudge tummy. If anyone has anything negative to say about my body, I now know that they are the ignorant ones – and I am quite normal … thank you very much!

Without this site, after my pregnancy, I would have inevitably suffered panic attacks about my looks (which I have in the past) and been closed inside my own mind.

It’s great to know that there’s so many of us out there who have post pregnancy bodies that are all unique and NORMAL.

Keep spreading the word! This is a great website and a lot of women, the world over, owe you a debt of gratitude for having the ingenuity to start it up!
