While I think Shape of a Mother is an absolute jewel and I tell nearly every mom I meet about it, and while I love the concept and ideas of the Fifty Nude Women, I have to comment that using a phrase like “applauded by Playboy” is a huge turn off.

Oh, do you really think so? I thought it was pretty cool that a magazine devoted to the perfect image could see the beauty in reality. Sorry, you found it without taste. I hope people can see what I intended, or at least see beyond the misunderstanding.

Oh, Bonnie, no misunderstanding, no personal attack, I’m sure your intent was good. I’ve just seen so many women’s lives and marriages utterly destroyed and their hearts ripped out because of porn. So for me, being applauded by the head of the industry that makes it’s living off of dehumanizing us, setting unattainable goals for us and ruining some of our families and lives, is just not what I would be looking for in a pat on the back.

Ah, you have a point. I don’t have a problem with porn, but you remind me that some women have been very hurt by it. I will cut that bit out in the future. Thanks!

Bonnie, I admire you for publicly stating that you don’t have a problem with porn. I don’t have a problem with it either, and I’m sure many other women don’t and many others’ sexual life was spiced up thanks to it.

When and where? I live in San Diego, I might be interested in attending, depending on when it is.

I don’t have a problem with porn–often it does show real women. But I, too, have a big problem with Playboy. When they have women as their centerfold who are covered in stretch-marks and aprons of post-partum fat, then I’ll appreciate their opinion. Playboy shares major responsibility for distorted expectations of men in their women’s bodies, and for the insecurity of real women with their own bodies. Putting a recommendation from them on this site legitimizes them, and they do not deserve it. When was the last time Hefner was with a flabby middle-aged woman?

I am reallly sick of hearing that so many women are “Hurt” by Porn. How about “Drink” and “Cigs”? If a man likes something there must be someway that you can “Fix” the problem. I like porn. Have liked porn for years. I have never had any women that is with complain about me viewing porn. It is not all about what I am.
Try not to include all men in the statement. Thank you!
